Fun Facts

If there is one thing I love more than photography, it would be talking about myself! Those that have read any of my long-winded journal entries from start to finish can attest to this (by the way, kudos if you are one of those people).
Also, please note that this is not out of vanity, I am not assuming that you are all clamoring over one another to find out more about me. I really enjoying getting to know the Deviant behind the art on a more personal level, I feel that it adds a whole new dimension to my enjoyment of your work.

That all being said, here is some information about me. My name is Sarah, I live in Northern Ontario (Canada). I was born and raised up here in the North, and if all goes as planned, I wont have to leave any time soon. Thankfully I was able to attend a local University, so I did not have to move far away for school. Right now I am in the process of completing my undergrad degree in English with a double minor in History and Philosophy; and yes, it is as much work as you think.
When I am not tirelessly toiling away in the library I enjoy getting outside. I feel lucky to be literally a stones throw away from miles of untouched wilderness. My parents raised us to have a deep respect and appreciation for nature, and that is something that has stuck with me through my childhood, my cynical teenage years, and right up to the present.

My penchant for photography began when I was very young. Some of you might not be old enough to remember the days BEFORE digital cameras, when people actually had to buy and then (*shudder*) develop film. I was introduced into the world of photography during these dark ages, and received my very first camera for my 8th birthday. I, unfortunately, do not remember what kind it was, but suffice to say, you would not give a fancy, expensive camera to an 8 year old. I held on to it for many years; it survived my less than responsible childhood, right up until I reached my mid-teens and finally received a new camera. Also of note, that 13 year old camera is still kicking around, my grandmother uses it when she goes to visit family and it works just fine. They just don't build things the way they used to back in my day.
Since then I have had several other cameras, one a Canon (still in the dark ages of film) and then 2 digital point-and-shoot Nikons. My love of photography really took off when I got my first digital camera. Being of the TV/videogame generation, I really have very little long-term memory left, so I would bring my camera with me everywhere so that I could basically document what I was doing and then go back and re-live the experience later (kinda like how killers take trophies so they can re-experience their crime, but mine is just in a non-killerish way). So, it turned out that 90% of what I was doing involved, either directly or indirectly, nature and being outside (in the woods, on the lake, etc) and through the documentation of my activities, my love of nature photography was born!

I have no formal training, someone once bought me a "Photography for Dummies" book, but I can honestly say that I never read it. Everything I know is through experience and trial and error. People sometimes ask me technical questions about my camera or equipment, and my answers sound incredibly lame (re: Yeah, well I pressed this thingy and it released the other thing, and then it... etc). For the record, I didn't even know what an F-stop was until, like, last year.

So that is a little rundown about my history and inspiration for photography. I like getting to know other artists here on DA, so feel free to send me a message or comment about yourself; also, if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. I look forward to hearing from you!

xox,
Sarah

Recent News

Exciting news in the world of Sarah Ville!
As some of you may or may not recall, I was recently awarded a DD by the lovely and talented :iconkkart: for this image... Well, I also entered that image into the Canadian Geographic Wildlife Photography Contest and won second place!! Not only that, I also entered this image and won honourable mention! At least one, if not both images will be published in the December 2009 issue of the magazine. Needless to say, I am incredibly stoked! Talk about a dream come true! :boogie: :boogie: :boogie: I have been doing my "Happy Dance" since I found out a few days ago, and I don't plan on stopping any time soon!

At the recommendation of other photographers, I have created myself a page on Redbubble Buy my art in order to sell prints. There are only a few images on there right now, but I will be adding more as time goes on. If you are interested in a specific image, then by all means feel free to suggest it! Buy art

As far as any personal updates go, I am excited that it is Fall again. This is literally the first time in 17 consecutive years that I am not in school during this beutiful season. I have had a lot of time to get out and take some shots of the leaves. I give it about 2.5 more weeks before the colours peak. Now that I do not have to get up early and drag my sorry ass to school, I am actually happy that Fall is here!

Much love, play safe, enjoy the weather!
